Funny short story.
But as fireslug pointed out, what's all this macho man talk with what amount to a luck game.
What's make poker interesting (regardless of the variant) is your capacity to bet and bluff your opponent.
Here, each round amount to everyone going all-in at the start and praying for a good draw.

Pretty fun story, I'll give it a base grade of four stars. But I'm deducting a star from that score for the bizarro-world poker variant being played.
* It's most certainly NOT 5-card stud as claimed, because that variant doesn't have draws (card replacements) or community cards (cards in common for everyone).
* It's not a stud game at all because there are no upcards (private face-up cards).
* It's not Texas Holdem or any other (well-known) community card variant, because they don't use the draw mechanic. Also this variant only has three community cards instead of the normal five.
